Mouse-Jiggler.com is a free, browser-based tool that keeps a computer registering activity, so the screen does not dim, sleep, or lock while you are still using it. Alongside the tool we publish guides about sleep settings, presence indicators, and working on locked-down hardware.

Who runs this site

The site is owned and operated by Güven Aydın, an independent software developer based in the Netherlands. It is a small, self-funded project rather than a company product, which means there is one person responsible for the code, the writing, and any mistakes in either. If something on the site is wrong, out of date, or unclear, writing to us actually reaches the person who can fix it.

Why the site exists

The idea came from a mundane problem. Corporate laptops are often configured to lock after a few minutes of no keyboard or mouse input. That policy makes sense for security, but it treats "no input" as "nobody is there", which is frequently wrong: you can be reading a long document, watching a training video, presenting to a room, monitoring a build, or waiting on a two-hour render, and the machine will still decide you have left.

Every existing fix had a catch. Hardware jigglers cost money and register as unknown USB input devices, which many IT departments block on principle. Desktop utilities require an installation, and on a managed device you often do not have the rights to install anything - or the software gets flagged by endpoint protection. Changing the power settings themselves is usually locked by group policy.

A web page has none of those problems. It runs inside a browser tab that is already open and already trusted, it installs nothing, and it changes no system configuration. So we built one.

How the tool works

An optical mouse contains a tiny camera that photographs the surface beneath it several thousand times a second. Firmware compares consecutive frames, works out how far the image shifted, and reports that as cursor movement. It does not care whether the surface is a desk or a screen - it only needs a visible pattern that moves.

Our page draws a moving grid on an HTML5 canvas. Rest an optical mouse on a phone displaying that grid, and the sensor sees the pattern sliding underneath it and reports genuine movement to your computer. From the operating system's point of view, a real mouse moved, because one really did. We explain the mechanism in more depth in how optical mouse sensors work.

What we do not do

The tool is also not a way to misrepresent your working hours, and we do not present it that way. Whether a jiggler is acceptable on a device your employer owns is a question for your own IT and HR policies, and the answer varies between organisations. We would rather say that plainly than pretend the question does not exist.
