How to Use Your Phone as a Mouse Jiggler (Step-by-Step)
Your phone already has everything required: a bright screen and a web browser. No app, no cable, no pairing. Here is the exact setup, followed by fixes for the three things that usually go wrong.
What you need
- A phone or tablet with a browser.
- An optical or laser mouse - wired or wireless, both fine.
- Somewhere flat to put the phone.
The mouse is the non-negotiable part. This technique cannot work with a laptop trackpad, because a trackpad measures the electrical capacitance of your finger rather than looking at a surface. If you only have a trackpad, see the alternatives instead.
The setup
- Open the jiggler page on your phone. Type mouse-jiggler.com into the browser. A moving grid appears immediately - it starts running on its own.
- Turn the brightness up. The mouse sensor needs contrast. Around 70% is a sensible floor; on an older or dimmer phone, go higher.
- Extend the screen timeout. This is the step almost everyone skips, and it is the reason almost every failed setup fails. On Android: Settings → Display → Screen timeout. On iPhone: Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock. Set it to 10 minutes or Never.
- Turn off battery saver. Low power modes dim the screen after a few minutes regardless of your brightness setting, which quietly kills the effect.
- Lay the phone flat on the desk, screen up, next to your keyboard.
- Place the mouse on the screen with the sensor down, roughly in the middle. Watch your computer - the cursor should begin drifting within a second or two.
- Set a timer if you want. The Timer button lets you specify hours and minutes, after which the animation stops by itself. Useful when you only need to cover a two-hour render.

Troubleshooting
The cursor is not moving at all
Work through these in order:
- Is the phone screen still on? The most common cause by a wide margin. Re-check the timeout setting.
- Is the sensor flat against the glass? Look at the underside of your mouse - the sensor is a small lens, usually near the centre. It has to be over the pattern, not hanging off the edge of the phone.
- Is the phone case in the way? A raised lip or a pop-socket can hold the mouse a few millimetres off the glass, which is enough to defeat the sensor entirely. Take the case off.
- Is brightness high enough? Try maximum and see if behaviour changes.
- Is it actually an optical mouse? A trackball or trackpad will never work with this method.
It moves in bursts, then stops
Usually a sensor tracking problem rather than a display problem:
- Try a different area of the screen. Some sensors struggle over a uniform region and do better where the pattern is denser.
- Check for auto-brightness lowering the screen in a dim room. Turn adaptive brightness off for the duration.
- Clean the sensor lens and the phone screen. Dust on either one degrades tracking noticeably.
- Glass screen protectors add a reflective layer that can confuse some laser sensors. If you have one, this may simply be a bad match with your mouse.
The cursor moves but the computer still locks
This one is not a setup problem - it means something other than idleness is locking the machine:
- A scheduled lock or forced log-off enforced by policy. No jiggler affects this.
- A screen saver with "on resume, display logon screen" enabled, on a very short timer.
- Dynamic Lock on Windows, triggered by your phone's Bluetooth signal weakening - ironically, possibly the same phone.
- The lid being closed, or the machine sleeping for a reason unrelated to input.

Practical tips
- Use an old phone if you have one. A drawer phone with a cracked screen is perfect for this and frees up the phone you actually use.
- Keep the phone in landscape if your mouse is wide - more usable surface area.
- Do not stack anything on the mouse. It needs no pressure, only contact.
- Watch the temperature. A phone running a bright screen under a mouse, while charging, gets warm. If it is hot to the touch, remove the case and give it air.
- Landscape mode on a tablet gives you enough room to park a mouse and still see the timer.
Why not just install an app?
You can, and there are Android and iOS apps that display similar patterns. The reason we do not is that a web page needs no permissions, no store account, no updates, and cannot access anything on your phone.
